Dr Juliet Balfour
Dr Juliet Balfour is an NHS GP with a special interest in menopause. She trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London and later did her GP training in Somerset. She has been a GP partner at Glastonbury Surgery for many years where she looks after women at all stages of life. She runs a Young People’s Clinic, a coil and implant fitting clinic and a menopause clinic.
Her post-graduate training has included diplomas from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. She completed the Menopause Special Skills Modules run by the British Menopause Society in 2018 and completed the practical part of the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care in 2021. As well as being a member of the British Menopause Society, she is a full associate member of the International Menopause Society.
She is passionate about informing women about the benefits of HRT for both symptom control and long-term heart, bone, and brain health. Every woman needs to be able to make an informed choice on whether or not HRT is right for her based on medical evidence and facts rather than on myths and scare stories from the media.
She is also keen to educate fellow health professionals about diagnosing and helping women in perimenopause and menopause. Many doctors have been influenced by the now discredited research from the Women’s Health Initiative of 2002 and are still unnecessarily wary of prescribing HRT.
